Hippo Creek is a beautifully situated along the boardwalk in The Hillarys.
It was recommended to me by a friend who has been a few times before and loved her dining experience.
We made a last minute decision to go here as we were passing by. Unfortunately, we didn’t realise that there was a Fishing & Boat Show so all car parks were so busy!
We were feeling pretty hungry and checked out the menu before arriving.
As well as the availability of the usual menu there was as seasonal menu with an array of salads and monstrous meaty dishes.
I decided to order the Steak Sandwich ($32) and Mr. T went for Lion Kill ($45).
We ordered some drinks to wash down our meal and a glass of wine went down very well on a hot Saturday afternoon.
The restaurant wasn’t very busy but we were still rather surprised at how quickly our food arrived to our table.
My Steak Sandwich was a big dish! The best part of the dish was the steak…obviously but I was a huge fan of the amount of peri-peri aoili served. Like Pete and Manu, I like enough sauce with my dish and this dish checked that box. The sauce was on the side so I could have as much or as little as I wanted with each mouthful.
The onions were beautifully caramelised and the chutney was delicious, the juices soaked into the bread like a sponge.
The other dish was also quite a feast. The Lion Kill was mainly about the meat, the steak had a juicy pink middle and deliciously tender! The ribs were tender and full of flavour and I would order this part on its own. There was also a perfect amount of mushroom sauce to accompany this dish which was fantastic.
We both had a serve of fries on the side. I didn’t completely finish mine as I was so full but it was worth every bite.
Restaurants like Hippo Creek, need to provide a service that deliver customers who are so full right to the door to the car.
As it is quite expensive, Hippo Creek won’t be on my regular visiting list but I will recommend it to others.
