We stumbled across Addison & Steele while exploring North Perth. I instantly loved the cafe on walking in to their fresh, crisp atmosphere and the retro vibe created by the furnishings. Check it out for yourself, I’m sure you will agree!
Down to business!
The cafe was busy but not packed so we had a choice of two tables that Sunday morning. It’s been awhile since I’ve been out for breakfast with Mr. T due to his work commitments so we were in no rush this particular morning.
We were given our menus and asked if we would like to order a coffee to start with. We ordered our usual Latte and Flat White. As usual, I was torn between what I wanted to order…what is it with breakfast menu! I hope it’s not just me! I wanted the House Beans ($19.50), Mr Drummond’s Sweet Crumpets ($15.50) and the Pulled Pork Crepes ($18.50). All of the options on the menu are so different and a mix between sweet and savory dishes. In the end I went with my old favourite, House Beans…it’s ‘bean’ awhile…yes I’m grinning as I write this!
Mr T is a big fan of bagels so the Spanish Bagel ($14.50) was on his radar, the Wild Mushroom Bruschetta ($19) was pipped at the post.
It wasn’t long before our coffees arrived. I really liked the mug mine was in, it’s a strange thing to like but I fell the need. The coffee blend was also delicious, it tasted quite earthy and had I not been so full leaving, I probably would have ordered one to go.
I don’t know what it is about ordering or maybe the choices I make bit my food seems to always seems to arrive second. You guessed it, Mr. T’s Spanish Bagel arrived first!
He said he was picks but not overly hungry, however, the way he wolfed that bagel down told me something different. I didn’t even get to taste it! One thing he particularly loved was the chilli jam. He also really liked the chunky chorizo on his bagel. The bagel itself was fresh and nicely toasted. He couldn’t fault the dish!
I patiently awaited the arrival of my dish. In the 30 seconds it took to arrive Mr. T had wolfed done nearly half of his bagel. I was visually attracted to the dish placed in front of me. I loved the presentation of the beans in the copper pot. I loved the placement of the egg on top and that you could see the tasty chunks of chorizo peeking out from underneath.
I buttered my freshly toasted bread before I tucked into the beans. The egg was cooked to my liking and the chorizo was possibly the nicest chorizo I have tasted on a breakfast dish. It had the correct amount of balance between saltiness and the spice kick that you tasted the more you ate, this was perfect for me!
I was glad the spoon came with my dish as I didn’t have enough bread left for the beans left it in the bottom of the pot. I wasn’t leaving anything behind.
Like Mr. T I couldn’t fault this dish either, if I am being very critical I would have loved a bigger portion of bread to match the size of the portion of beans, however, this is my personal taste.
As there were a few things on the menu that I wanted to try, I know that this is a place I will definitely return to.
Also close by is a favorite of mine and Ms. D’s, The Old Laundry, which serves food all day and a cocktail list to die for!
