FOOD: Revisiting Jamie’s Italian

Ms D decided to organise a welcome back dinner for Ms G and chose Jamie’s Italian. We had a table booked for a Friday night at 8 p.m. and arrived just on time.

We were guided to a booth where we took our seats. We were given the menu and asked if we would like to order some drinks. After is a waitress kindly allowed us to test a few of the wines, we decided on a light and fruity wine, then began the task of ordering our food!

This took quite some time, not because we couldn’t decide what to eat, we were too busy chatting. Both Ms D and Ms G were after something healthy and light so decided on the Baked King Salmon ($27.95) quite pricey. I wasn’t worried about being healthy, I went for the Chicken Al Mattone ($31)also quite expensive . We also ordered a portion of the famous fries, Funky Chips ($7.25) to accompany our dinner and share between us. I found the menu very  expensive and hoped it would be worth it considering I choose a main for $31 that didn’t include a side.

A little bit about Jamie’s Italian. The restaurant itself is rather large and spacious with various sized tables depending on the number of people dining. You may have a booth, big table, small table, round table or a square table but every time I’ve been here I’ve always been happy. The atmosphere screams hustle and bustle and I love it!

First of our food to arrive were both of the salmon dishes. The presentation was beautiful and the girls couldn’t wait to tuck in. The salmon was rather large and cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft and moist in the middle. The dish itself was accompanied by some fresh salad to brighten up the plate and add a little colour to the dish. It was the perfect touch and exactly what the girls were after, they were both very satisfied.

My dish also looked good except for the little pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. The chicken was beautifully chargrilled and well seasoned. Under the chicken fillet was a thick mushroom sauce that really complimented the chicken. There were a few crostini under the chicken but I was glad that we ordered the fries as the dish was not filling enough on  its own. I’m a fan of big meals for $31, however, that is only my opinion.

We all tucked into the portion of fries and shared them as we ate. They were crispy with very little oil. It was quite a good portion size for the three of us as we all wanted to have it as a compliment rather than a side dish. As a huge lover of garlic, I loved the fries as the garlic was the dominant seasoning…yum!

Ms D had the waitress pre warned about us ordering a brownie as she had something lined up for Ms G. We decided to order the Epic Brownie ($10.50)under the influence of Ms D. It arrived on a beautiful board with ‘welcome home’ written on it as planned. The brownie was probably our favourite part of the meal. I have no idea how to give the brownie full credit, you just have to order it yourself . The brownie was warm and a perfect rich, chocolatey hit! Amaretto popcorn is something I haven’t seen anywhere apart from Jamie’s Italian, it’s amazing! I would happily come back for the brownie alone.

Thank you Jamies Italian for a beautiful meal, great service and a wonderful night.
