Feast of Merit | Richmond

Richmond is thriving with cafes and restaurants and when it comes to choosing somewhere for breakfast, it can prove quite tough!

We parked outside Feast of Merit and as Mr. B had been there before, we decided to go with that. Within ten minutes of arriving, we were seated and had our Long Blacks ordered.

After a browse over the menu, I was drawn to the Loubia Style Baked Eggs ($19) and Mr. B went for Eggs Your Way ($10) with avocado, beech smoked bacon & 1 extra egg ($5 each). The cafe wasn’t very busy as it was just after 11am and our coffees arrived, they were a good strong blend. Just what we needed!

What baffled me was the further 40minutes we waited for our breakfast to arrive.

Mr. B was more than happy with his breakfast. He absolutely loved the beech smoked bacon commenting that he had never tasted bacon like it but wasn’t a fan of how the avocado was served. All three eggs were poached perfectly and as you can see, very well seasoned. A very simple breakfast but an enjoyable one.

My breakfast looked amazing! Unfortunately, when I cut open the first egg, it was extremely under cooked. I’m not too fussy with eggs, if it’s poached and has a little clear fluid, I don’t mind but this egg had a lot! I brought it to the attention of the waiter as I was happy to just remove it from the plate but he took it away and returned with a new one about 15minutes later.

My breakfast was certainly enjoyable but the waiting took a little of the goodness out of it. I also loved the beech smoked bacon, a very unique style. Second time round, my eggs were much better only one being overcooked. The tomato sauce was packed with flavour and lots of beans in the sauce. There was a generous serving of fresh bread to mop up extra sauce! All in all, a huge portion and a little hard to finish.

I think I would give Feast of Merit a second chance as the waiter happily took my dish to replace it. He also offered not to charge us for it but as I still ate a breakfast, we insisted on paying. It was a nice gesture though.

My all time favourite breakfast in the area is Pillar Of Salt  about a ten minute walk away! ❤
