It is always exciting to hear about a new menu launch from a new eatery in South Yarra, I still haven’t been to them all.

Chinacy opened very recently and invited myself and some lucky folks to try out the new menu, if it’s food…I’m there.

On arrival, I immediately regretted driving…those cocktails! I wanted to try them all and asked for a recommendation, I had the Gin Dynasty. It started off sour and finished sweet, it was delicious. The venue itself is quite large with a variety of small tables and other setting suited to larger groups.

We were introduced to Harry and Darren who gave us a brief rundown on why they created Chinacy and what they hoped we would experience. I was excited to see what was on the menu for the night.

There were 9 items on the menu with the Chicken and Scallop Dumplings and the Char-grilled Cape Grim Porterhouse Steak being my absolute favourites.

The Chicken and Scallop Dumplings were one of the first menu items to arrive to the table. We had two each but I think I could have eaten all of them by myself. There was an apt amount of filling inside that was so tasty, they had a little kick of spice and I would definitely order them again, I likely wouldn’t share them though.

The Char-grilled Cape Grim Porterhouse Steak just melted in my mouth and was beautifully seasoned and marinated, I couldn’t get enough of it. A portion of Vegetarian Fried rice was served with the steak and they went together beautifully. I was feeling quite full by the time these dishes came out so I didn’t have much of the rice with my steak.

The Drunken Mushrooms surprised me as I am usually quite hesitant when it comes to mushrooms, nevertheless, I tasted them anyway. Personally, I couldn’t eat much of this dish unless it was accompanying the likes of steak but the broth was to die for!

After drooling over the above images, I bet you are surprised there was room for dessert! Thankfully, this colourful dessert was light and fresh making it the perfect dish to end the evening. The poached pear was scrumptious and one of my favourite things on the dish was the sesame tuile, it was fantastic!

We had such a wonderful evening and I met some new foodies too! A big thank you to Chinacy for a fantastic evening and an unforgettable menu launch!
