Denis The Menace |Richmond

This funky little spot is hidden on a street behind the furniture shops on Chapel St, Richmond.

Parking was easy as there were lots of spaces out front. When we arrived, I didn’t think the place was too big but I was wrong. The space opens up beautifully with a variety of booths and tables.

I really enjoyed reading the menu here and there were certainly a few things that appealed to me. In the end, I went with the Rosemary and Garlic Potato Waffles ($22), how amazing do they sound! Mr. B went with Ava Smashing Time ($22) and added extra eggs and toast..because that’s what he likes to do.

Coffee…we disagreed on this one and it was Mr. B who wasn’t a fan, he still drank it any way so I’m not even sure if that counts.

More importantly, breakfast! I was excited for my dish. If you are a regular reader, I tend to go with the usual suspects quite off and try to go a little different when I can. I loved the waffles and I couldn’t finish them as it was quite the dish. The waffles themselves were perfect with a subtle garlic and rosemary flavour. There was a large amount of braised bbq beef covering the waffles and that was topped with hollandaise sauce. If that sounds like a lot, it was! This is the perfect dish for you if you are hungry.

Mr. B wasn’t left quite as satisfied with his dish and felt that it lacked enough of the avocado on his dish….don’t mess with Mr. B and his smashed avo! As you can see, there wasn’t much smashed avocado on the dish, it was ‘undercover’. He ordered extra eggs and toast on this occasion also so your breakfast will look smaller than the dish pictured.

We loved the interior of this cafe and the staff are super friendly which ready makes a difference. There are plenty of papers to read so grab a coffee and see if you agree with Mr. B or I on the coffee dilemma.

This place is definitely worth a visit, so if you are in the area, give it a go!
