Short Straw |Hawthorn

Short Straw is a typical Melbourne cafe with great coffee and an uncomplicated menu. When you are greeted warmly on arrival and don’t need to squeeze into a tiny table, it’s also an appealing cafe to catch up with a friend.

We ordered two coffees and The Short Straw ($20) and the Pork Benny ($20). Coffee arrived with rich coffee smells and some coffee art…winning!

I ordered The Short Straw as I had the benny the last time I was at Short Straw. The fritters are certainly tasty, and they are quite the portion too. As I’m not an avocado fan, I would have preferred another egg to add more texture but there are no menu changes at the the weekends. The pumpkin hummus was amazing and I was very thankful to have that on my plate.

Second dish was the Pork Benny and I can’t lie, I had some serious food envy when I saw it come out. Of course I tasted it though! The pulled pork and wilted spinach was delicious, with the addition of eggs…perfect! The lucky person who ordered this dish really enjoyed the fresh apple with it. This was the winning dish from our visit!
