Hemp Kitchen | St Kilda

Just when you thought there was no more room for a new cafe or restaurant in St. Kilda, a new restaurant with a new concept pops up, Hemp Kitchen.

Hemp Kitchen has a beautiful indoor and small cosy outdoor area to enjoy a meal. We picked a summer’s evening to go down and opted to sit outside.

We ordered a glass of Shiraz and a glass of Pinot Noir to start us off. I spotted a dish that resembled bruschetta and scanned the menu for it. It looked so fresh and appealing.

I went with Mr. B who is a vegetarian and he opted for the Aubergine Burger with fries while I was in the mood for a pizza and thought I might like Vittoria. We ordered the Bruschetta to share before our mains.

Starting with the bruschetta! The bread was interesting, as Mr. B said! It was light and doughy, crunchy around the edges. There were six slices and each was topped with fresh tomatoes, basil and oil. I loved it and would definitely order it again.

Our food arrived together. The pizza had six fresh slices and certainly enough to be devoured by one, depending on how much you love pizza. There is something about red onion on a pizza that I really love and when you add salami…match made in heaven! The addition of cherry tomatoes and feta on this pizza went down well, I loved how fresh this pizza was.

The aubergine burger was an interesting one with a soft textured centre and a crispy deep fried outside. The relish and dressing on the burger were very complimentary and it all sat between a fresh bun. The fries…loved them! Unfortunately, someone was reluctant to share them with me though.

It’s noteworthy that pizzas are $15 on a Monday night and pasta dishes are $15 on a Tuesday night. I would love to go back on a Tuesday night as I watched the chef making the pasta and it doesn’t get any fresher than that.
