Kitty Burns | Abbotsford

I am lucky to have this gorgeous spot so close to where I live. It is a short morning walk along the Yarra River and I can walk in the door.

I recently had Ms. D and Ms. G visiting from Perth, it was so good to have them here and reminded me of good times in Perth as a breakfast date was always part of our weekend plans.

Anywho, enough reminiscing and on the the menu! Coffee was ordered while we browsed the menu. I have been to Kitty Burns before so I was quite familiar with the menu and wanted to try something new. I had the Benedict the last time which was delicious! I decided to step away (just a little step) from my usual eggs of some sort kinda breakfast and order the Popcorn Chilli Chicken and Waffles ($21). In a panic, I asked for an additional egg…I feel like an egg addict!

Amongst the orders were the Eggs Burnadict ($20), Eggs on Toast with Avocado and Meet Mr. Burns ($22.50).

Coffee arrived, I enjoyed it last time and I loved it this time just as much.

My dish looked amazing! I wasn’t sure if I would like the maple moose so I asked for it on the side. In the end, I was glad I did as I didn’t enjoy it very much. The waffle was my favourite part, it was delicious but the chicken was overcooked leaving it very dry. I could see the benefit of the maple moose to add some moisture to the dish but it just wasn’t for me. I don’t think I would order it again as I only enjoyed the waffle.

Ms. D was happy with her order. She was extremely curious about the black pudding and said it was scrumptious. The sausage meat was interesting as it had the texture of a pate. The eggs were perfectly poached and the bacon was another delicious element. This would be a great dish if you were not overly hungry as it is a small portion.

The Benedict was quite the crowd pleaser! The Pork was tender and tasty with the sweetness broken up by The fresh apple. The eggs were perfectly poached and sat on a piece of sourdough, another slice would have made this dish a perfect ten!

This breakfast was as boring as it looks. Mr. B was disappointed with the lack of effort and it really did not look appealing. The portion size of the sourdough was better and the eggs were perfect again! This was a little too minimal.

Overall, there were some great dishes and some unimpressive dishes at Kitty Burns. Of course, I’ll be back and let’s hope we get a perfect order next time.
