Melbourne is finally open and what a way to kick off the silly season than with a visit to a stunning new city rooftop bar. It’s a short ride to the 13th floor to Fable Melbourne to experience uninterrupted city views, a Greek inspired menu and a sophisticated cocktail menu.
The bar was designed by owner Gehan Rajapakse bringing emerald green and rust orange into the colour palette. The city backdrop views are amazing throughout the day and as darkness falls, the city skyline is quite mesmerising! The contrasting booths along the windows made the venue feel warm and inviting. While the roof was not open on this particular night, it is retractable so it can only add to the incredible views and the ability to trade no matter the weather.
Parking is close by at QV which is a short walk to the corner of Russell and Lonsdale Street.

We had a tasting menu designed by chef Alex Xinis, former Press Club chef, who took a few moments to chat with us, sharing his foodie journey and some of the creative process behind the venue menu. The menu is described as ‘Modern Mediterranean’ with dishes made to share, or not! In my opinion, the menu is perfect for nibbles with an evening cocktail or two but also for a dinner date. There are lots of gluten free and vegan options too, so there’s something for everyone.

Of the dishes we tasted, the beef tartare and the house made white taramosalata were our favourites. I really enjoyed the egg yolk aioli on the beef tartare which was a little different to how I have had this dish in the past but I could have enjoyed this all to myself. The taramosalata was incredible and we spoke with Alex about this and he told us it was house made…delicious!

Food was accompanied by some tasty cocktails from the menu crafted by Alessandro Nardini with ‘The Birth of Venus’ being a personal favourite. There are lots more cocktails to sample.

We had such a wonderful evening at Fable Melbourne and a big thank you for organising this event and inviting us along. I have absolutely no doubt we will be back here!
