A Weekend Visit To Bendigo

Bendigo is the break from the city you have been looking for! With historical attractions, foodie experiences, live music and so much more, there is something for everyone. Taking about two hours to get there by car, it’s ideal for a short weekend or one night getaway in the Mercure Schaller Hotel.

We were invited to stay at the Mercure Schaller Hotel in Bendigo and really enjoyed our stay. On this particular weekend, we were greeted at reception and provided with some information on things to do in Bendigo and the facilities in the hotel before going up to our room.

The hotel itself was quiet and offers spacious rooms with a private balcony, tv, tea and coffee making facilities. There is a seperate lounge area and writing desk in the room so the Superior Room might be great for families or those needing a little extra space.

The artwork around the hotel is like a gallery itself and pieces are scattered throughout the entrance, corridors, cafe and rooms. We really enjoyed checking them out.

As we had a big lunch, we were keen for a small bite in the CBD but enjoyed a drink at the bar before heading off. The Pantry is available for casual dining and a really nice part of the hotel to grab a coffee and relax too.

You can check in anytime after 2pm and check out is up until 11am which is perfect to really make the most of a sleep in and a late breakfast at The Pantry. We enjoyed an Eggs Benedict and a Brekkie Burger with our morning coffee before leaving the next morning.

Things To Do In Bendigo

There are so many lovely things to do in Bendigo, even a morning walk through the many laneways and historical sites is a great way to start the day.

Lunch and wine tasting at Balgownie Estate

This beautiful winery is located about 10minutes outside of Bendigo and a must visit. We enjoyed a two course lunch with a glass for the Sparkling Pinot Noir. We also did a wine tasting at the cellar door which was very relaxed and enjoyable.

Tapas at El Gordo

We enjoyed tapas at El Gordo. Our waiter was great with menu recommendations and there were 69 gin cocktails to choose from too, quite the collection! We really enjoyed the food and ordered way too much!

Handle Bar

We stumbled across a gorgeous courtyard bar with live music and had to go in. This doesn’t look much from the outside but it is lit up with fairy lights, lots of seating and great music. It was the perfect way to end our evening.

Bendigo Art Gallery

We sent about 45mins browsing the gallery of nearly 5000 pieces from local artists and beyond. The gallery is free entry and there is a beautiful gift shop on the way out.

We managed to pack in quite a lot in such a short amount of time but I really enjoyed the visit to Bendigo. Thank you so much to Mercure Schaller Bendigo for your warmth and hospitality throughout our stay.
