Living in Richmond opens your eyes to the variety of Asian cuisines available in the area and surrounding suburbs. Victoria St. is home to door to door Asian cuisines and I was extremely excited to go on a date to try something different, Korean BBQ.
I had heard quite a bit about Korean BBQ, mainly that it was great for groups, food is cooked in front of you and there is a lot of food. Lots of ticks in my book! The evening we went to Dare BBQ, the restaurant was a little quiet which I loved as I had been told the food was excellent and this meant that staff would be quite attentive to our table.
We sat down, flicked through the menu pages of the menu right to the back. This is where we found the option for the Korean Buffet. We decided to go for a menu for two and the option of three meats ($79 for two people). I was more than happy with this option as I didn’t want very heavy carb dishes to fill me up and I love my meaty dishes. Dare BBQ is BYOW which we didn’t realise, so we ordered a bottle of red from the drinks menu available.
We sipped on our wine as the grill heated up. Our chef brought the sides to the tables first. We had salad options (Mr. B could have that), pasta, noodles, dumplings, corn cheese and a serving of sauces each. It looked like quite a lot of food already and these were just the sides. First thing on the grill were the vegetables. Then a bowl of hot pork noodle soup arrived and a large bowl of rice so we decided to start with this.
Meanwhile, our first meat was placed on the BBQ and sizzled in front of us…talk about drooling! When the meat was ready, we could take it off the grill according to the liking, we both enjoy medium/rare. The meat was mouthwatering and my knife glided through it like butter. This made me feel even more hungry.
The next two meats, the chicken and pork were marinated and cooked as and when we wanted it. We were not rushed through our BBQ so it was easy to enjoy.
My only preference would have been to have the steak as the final meat, simply because it was my favourite and I would have loved to have the best meat last.
This was an absolutely delicious meal and a great experience. With Dare III so close by, I would love to revisit or try out somewhere similar.
